2025! Goals!

Set your own goals!
So doing this last year was oddly kind of useful? And I think 2025's goals will be fairly similar to 2024's goals, but let use see here.
1. I gotta say, getting stronger has been really rewarding. It's also exhausting, because EDS bodies are kind of jerks, but the slow-and-steady-needs-a-nap approach is actually working for me to lift heavier things.
So. Short-term deadlift goal is my bodyweight, followed shortly by full plates (135 lbs!), which should be achievable by mid-year if not much sooner. So maybe the full year goal is 150lbs? And with that, I might as well have a bench press goal (65 lbs!), and an overhead press goal (45 lbs!), and a squat goal (figure out how to put the bar on my back without dislocating a vertebra!).
2. I have begun the process of obtaining a larger place to live. So goal is to actually do that, and move in, and begin to make it my own.
3. I suspect 2025 is also a year of...different work things, specifics TBD. I'm going to stay at the tech octopus, but I've started to outgrow my role, so I am hoping to find a larger role, and begin to make it my own.
4. Given the two things above are, you know, generally known to be stressful...I think I want to make sure I prioritize my mental health, which means prioritizing my physical health. And this isn't a goal so much as a note to self to continue to figure out how to sleep (did you know you could unlearn this skill?) and get good exercise and eat vegetables sometimes and not let the stress of the work and the housing and all of it get to me.
5. Fandom! Man, 2024 in fandom was fun. I wrote more words last year than any year ever, and I've been putting stories on the internet since 1999. So, I want to keep writing with joy and connection, no matter how many words. And maybe I could knock a thing or two off the ideas list. (Margo! Choices! *melts*)
6. Books! Man, 2024 was not a great reading year. And that's okay. I broadly resist numerical books targets because...ew? This is not the third grade summer reading rewards program? I don't get a personal pan pizza? You are not a better person or a more cultured person or whatever for reading 4,537 books in a year. But I would, perhaps, like to read more than 2024. And get myself a personal pan pizza if I do.
7. In 2024, I said I would post to DW once a month, and I did! I shall do that again!
8. I would like to go somewhere new. Last year almost all of my travel (of which there was a huge amount) was for work and/or to places I've been before. Much of it was rewarding! But I only hit one new-to-me spot, and only briefly, and that was a little...oh, hey, I value this! Should try to do a bit more of it!
9. (Late addition). I would also like to continue to improve my RL social circle. I have wonderful friends, but need to do work to build the volume of acquaintances and people I can just hang out with sometime. Combating the American loneliness epidemic one soccer game at a time, or something.

on 2025-01-10 01:57 am (UTC)5. So what's this new show I've seen you writing in? Where can I check it out? I don't think it's as genre-laden as I usually get, but also there seem to be a lot of women? That you write?
8. Where do you think you're going to go?
9. Aaah, I wish we lived closer, I would totally add you to my RL social circle if it were possible!

on 2025-01-10 02:08 am (UTC)The show is "For All Mankind" on Apple+. It's not actually new -- it has 4 seasons and launched in 2019 -- but it doesn't get a lot of mainstream press for some unfathomable reason. But the basic premise is twofold: one, the USSR beats the US in the race to the moon. And two, the second person they land on the moon is a woman. What unfolds is a multi-decade alt-history show that is really great (especially the first two seasons) with fantastic women and fantastic history and such.
8. Where do you think you're going to go?
Don't know yet! The uncertainty re: housing and work things means I have to be a little slower to plan than I might usually. But will get somewhere--the list is long and varied!
