Dear Writer: 90s Channel TV Exchange
Hello Dear Writer! Thank you for taking the time to write me a story for this absolutely charming fic exchange!
First, and most importantly: thank you! I am sure I will love anything you write me, because OMG you are writing me a story! I am very grateful for your time.
Second, I guess a couple general DNWs: I am not really into major character death (unless it's canon?), or werewolves or A/B/O, or trauma porn. Also DNW non-con, rape, gratuitous violence against women, or embarrassment stuff.
Third, a couple loves: I am a canon whore and a character whore. I love a good AU, but my heart is happiest unpacking the characters we love in the settings we know. I don't mind if that's silly or heartfelt or hurt/comfort or deep inside someone's head or outside POV or whatever, but my happiest place is character work in a canon-friendly way.
Fourth, onto the fandoms!
1. Babylon 5 (tl,dr: this show, these characters, love.)
My show. The show of my heart and soul. It is deep and complicated and perfect, and I could spend all day unpacking the relationships and friendships at the heart of it all. I would be so very happy with any of the characters or relationships outlined in my tags.
I adore all of Delenn's many facets: war crimes and redemption and true love and grief and lying and complicated allegiances. I love her relationship with Neroon and with Minbar, and how neither is straightforward. I love her friendship with Susan and all the ways it evolves over the years. I love how much she refuses to tell anyone the entire truth, including John and probably herself. I love the way she sort of-accidentally-not at all accidentally takes over the entire universe with a smile. I am an unabashed lifelong John/Delenn shipper, and I love that their relationship follows her rules.
I am a true John Sheridan stan: war crimes and leadership and humor and friendship and overcoming grief and learning to live with a future you don't get to choose. I love his relationship with Kosh and his father, and I wish we understood more of what it meant to him to carry Kosh and how that impacts his future. I love how much he is not defined by loss. I love that he loves Delenn even though he doesn't always understand her. I love his friendship with Susan and how it shapes both of their lives so deeply. I love that he tells dad jokes and loves oranges. I do not love but find fascinating how bad he is at being a politician in S5. I find fascinating the fanon that he loses some of his memory after Z'ha'dum.
Susan Ivanova makes the world turn: grief and loss and figuring out how to find happiness when it doesn't want to find you and being the absolute best friend in the world to John and Delenn. I love her trust issues and her willingness to put herself on the line every single time it matters. I wish she'd stayed in S5, and I always want to know how her life played out either in the time between S4 and Sleeping in Light, or after Sleeping in Light. The life she leads with Delenn after the finale fascinates me, too.
I love the role destiny plays in the show, but I love the idea that prophecy is a poor guide to the future. I love the way grief and happiness coexist.
This clearly isn't exactly a prompt set so much as just me fangirling over this show that means so much, but you could take any of these ideas or none of them and I would be thrilled to have your writing.
Fandom specific DNW is Delenn/Lennier. I don't mind Lennier's canon pining or Delenn's canon complicated fondness for him, but DNW Delenn having romantic affection for Lennier.
2. Stargate
My team! SAM! Sam and her depth and complexity got me through graduate school. I would love any story exploring her journey at any point--perhaps even most later in her career when she has accomplished so much and wonders what's next. But I love her relationships across the team and the way they evolve over time. I love her relationship with Jacob especially, and would appreciate anything that explored it either over time or at a moment of your choosing. I love the idea of how her relationship with Jack could evolve as they age and mature--and that would not necessarily have to be romantic. I love the way the team bends but never breaks as they deal with so much loss.
But really, anything that centers Sam and any of the relationships outlined in my tags would make me so happy.
Fandom-specific DNW is Pete, unless he meets an amusing and unmourned violent end or, perhaps more reasonably, is a mistake long past. What can I say, I'm a Sam/Jack shipper of a certain era.
3. The West Wing
Of all the shows here, this is the one that I watched first. CJ is one of those characters who shaped my life and offered an example of how a smart, independent woman could live in the world. I love her all on her own, but also in relation to Toby, who I see either as a friend or in a romantic sense. I love the length and depth and complexity of their relationship, and how they know each other so very well. I also love CJ and Danny, the way he makes her smile from the start, but always takes her seriously when it matters.
Any story exploring CJ's journey--early in her career, getting to know Toby and making her way; after the White House, figuring out what she should do next; during the show, navigating all the sexism and all the dudes to make her own way...any of it would be wonderful.
Thank you again!
